Barton Lee

Barton W. Lee serves as Associate Dean and Coordinator
of Performing Arts in the College of The Arts at the
University of South Florida. Responsibilities include
supervision of the College Events & Production area and
assisting the Dean in the administration of the College.
Administrative activities include: oversight for faculty and
program development; accreditation and program review;
curriculum; student services and advising; faculty
research and creative activity; facilities; and strategic,
academic, and budgetary strategies and planning.
As a tenured Full Professor of Design and Production in
the School of Theatre and Dance, Barton Lee has served
as a past Director of the school; taught a complement of
design, technical production, and stage management
courses; and designed, technical directed or production
managed on 100+ USF productions. He spent a semester
as an exchange instructor at Middlesex University in
London and took a sabbatical to study and observe
theatrical practice in the UK, Czech Republic, Austria, and
Germany.
Barton Lee holds active membership in the United Scenic
Artists (scene design) and the International Alliance of
Theatrical Stage Employees. He has served as a theatrical
consultant on stage and production facility renovations
and new construction projects for performance rigging,
lighting, and sound/multimedia systems. Locally he has
designed on productions staged in all four performance
venues at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center;
American Stage; American Stage in the Park; Falk
Theatre; and in the past he designed and provided
production support to Playmakers, Tampa Players, and
The Tampa Ballet.
In 2003, Barton received the Florida Theatre Conference
Distinguished Career Award and in 2002 the Chairman’s
Award for the Most Creative USF Faculty/Staff Annual
Campaign Fund Drive. He is active member in the
International Council of Fine Arts Deans and Florida
Higher Education Arts Network.
Barton Lee holds a BS in Business from Fairmont State
College, West Virginia, and an MA in Theatre Design and
Technology from West Virginia University.
